N2 - Human capital is a key factor for the success of companies. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult for companies to attract and retain high potentials because they are in direct competition with other employers. To ensure competitiveness in the war for talents, a company must be perceived by the target group as an employer of choice. This can be achieved through a strong employer brand, which is characterized by authentic, attractive and differentiating attributes. Social media offers companies the opportunity to communicate these attributes in an authentic and target group-oriented manner and thus position themselves as attractive employers. This paper is a guideline for the implementation of an effective employer branding process through social media from a company's point of view. With the help of extensive literature review and qualitative research in the form of expert interviews, the key factors for successful employer branding via social media are being explored and recommendations for action for companies are derived. The theoretical basis for this is the approach of the identity-based brand management. The key success factors are a long-term strategy, authenticity, communication at eye level, target group-specific content, proximity and the involvement of the company's own employees.
